Indian Woman travelling alone to Goa. Need suggestions
More information can be found by viewing the following announcement. Details here. Im an indian girl of 23 years. I plan to travel to Goa sometime in December on january maybe. Since i have no one accompanying will have to do it on my own. However i am interested in making my own circle at goa since i have never travelled alone and depressed by the idea of it.
Could I get some suggestions as to how to socialise there on my own and get to know people who would be interested in exploring with me. I have been suggested before to be wary of local or Indian men given the cultural set up and mentality here.
Women and tourists from other country were just fine. Besides which beaches would be the best for the same and what else does one do in Goa besides beach and church visits. Would a packaged tour be a better deal if im going alone? Lemme know the pros and cons please. Im utterly confused. Don't be depressed. Lots of people travel alone and meet up with others travelling the same way. You can meet up with many people of different nationalities.
That's one of the wonderful things about travelling in India. Enjoy yourself Like visiting the local bars or something? And anything to keep in mind if am travelling alone? Firstly, Udita, you need to take heart from your strengths. You are young, smart and obviously independent and spirited - if you weren't you wouldn't even be thinking about travelling alone let alone doing it. Yes, it may seem a little daunting at first but if you keep your wits about you, you will be fine.
Look at all the advantages you have over other single female non-Indian travellers. Your dilemma seems to be: how to connect with other young travellers. I would avoid bars until you find your feet at least. Look out for other young women who are travelling alone or in small groups. You will see them in restaurants and hotels, at the beach, at tourist sites and markets.. Just bowl up, smile and say "Hello, are you having a good holiday?
Let them know that you are on holiday too. I think you'll find that many people will be very interested to talk to you because you are a bit of a rarity on the traveller's trail - a young Indian woman forging her own path. It is through these casual contacts that you are likely to meet others. There is also a "Travel Companion" thread that you could post a message on. You might connect with someone in your situation. The world is waiting for you Udita, do not keep it waiting much longer.
I agree,go to the Traveler Companion for frinds. Please ignore all of the PMs you might be recieving. Very good advice from number 3. You'll probably be able to give them a great perspective on the country that they normally wouldn't get.
There will be many, many more western women available to make friends with. Approach them and simply say hi If they wish the company, great. Never seen a Indian woman sitting in a beach shack or restro by herself for very long before her travel companions showed up. Meeting up people would not be a problem, I suggest look for a group which has mixed company, guys and gals.
I guess that is the safest bet. When in Goa, try doing different things. That will be upto you who do you want to interact with. Be smart and confident. This topic has been locked by a moderator. And, as any engineers on Tripoto would already know, a Goa plan includes:. Now, the first three parts of the plan run rather smoothly; it is actually the fourth part that is tricky. Very-very tricky. Having scraped past an engineering degree, and having gone to Goa for the first time with my engineer friends only, I understand how hard it is for most to even dream of a female company whilst as a greenhorn in a technological institution. And it is always incredibly fascinating to think of having a woman by your side while you are just lazing around on the beach with a Kingfisher in one hand watching the sun drown into the infinite sea in front.
